Getting Fit Through Tennis

A recent study conducted by the Physical Activity Council and reported on in Club and Resort Business Magazine found that the number one sport, in year-to-year growth, is cardio tennis. Cardio tennis is a slight variation on traditional tennis that incorporates high-energy cardiovascular exercise.


The participation report discovered a 16.7% increase in cardio tennis players over the past year. In an addition to the rise in cardio tennis, the rise in “new” youth players rose 17.8% in 2016. The increase in tennis participation is a good sign, industry wide, and reflects the national trend of casual sport participation.


“We’re thrilled with the increases for Cardio Tennis and youth tennis,” said Jolyn de Boer, the executive director of the Tennis Industry Association (TIA). “Overall, tennis participation for year-end 2016 also increased slightly, bringing the total number of tennis players in the U.S. to 18.08 million.”
